Make Others Your Motivation

One thing that has always kept me motivated, even when I’m tired and overwhelmed, is thinking about the people my work will benefit.

For example, Kym, David, and I made a childhood promise to each other to buy our parents a new home one day. We saw how much they had sacrificed for their children, and we always felt motivated to do this for them as our gift and thank-you for their unending love and sacrifices. I was always saving pennies and quarters because I wanted to honor what they had given me. That was more important than any trinket I might find at the toy store.

Mogul was the same way. I was so focused not necessarily on how I would build this company, but on how this platform might help these women who were already reaching out to me, that I worked through those late nights, inspired and energized. It didn’t matter how tired I was; there was more to do for them, and I couldn’t wait to get to it.
